Public Workshop on Nonlinear Vibrations in Structural Dynamics
Applied nonlinear structural dynamics training for engineers: tests, models, and real-world examples
Inventum Engineering Solutions, in collaboration with XCTE, successfully delivered a two-day public online workshop on Nonlinear Vibrations in Structural Dynamics on 20–21 November 2025.
The workshop brought together participants from industry and academia across Europe and the United States, including industry professionals, research engineers and PhD-level researchers.
Key Technical Insights
Some of the key technical insights discussed included:
- Nonlinearities manifest as amplitude-dependent dynamics, higher harmonics, and modal interactions
- Robust test-based detection of nonlinear behavior requires complementary tools such as homogeneity tests and time-frequency analysis
- Full-spectrum experimental characterisation remains challenging, making single-mode approximations highly practical in many applications
- Nonlinear frequency response surfaces provide an effective framework to extract amplitude-dependent modal parameters
- Reliable numerical models require a clear understanding of the underlying type of nonlinearities
- Efficient simulation workflows benefit from model reduction techniques and advanced solvers
The theoretical foundations were complemented by practical workflow implementation guidelines and real-world industrial case studies, emphasizing applicability in engineering workflows.
This initiative reflects Inventum's commitment to transferring advanced methods in engineering dynamics from research into robust, industrially applicable workflows. Future workshop editions and tailored company formats are currently under evaluation.
